Activities

As well as growing potatoes, making birdboxes and learning about canal and river safety, we have made our own movies at the applestore in Leeds, and visited the Chocolate Story in York. We have made scarecrows for Barwick in Bloom and enjoyed an introduction to Self Defence for Girls at John Smeaton Leasure Centre.

We've been to the Pantomime to see Jack and the Beanstalk with the Brownies and Rainbows at the Carriageworks Theatre in Leeds at Christmas. Thanks to a generous grant from Barwick and Scholes Community Fund, we took a day trip to Flamingo Land for Guiding's Flamingo Fling event. 6500 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Senior Section from across North East England enjoyed the fun and adventure that a large theme park and zoo can offer - from white knuckle roller coaster rides to exotic animal encounters.

Recently we were meeting on Zoom of course, but now we're back together with lots more exciting projects happening just like before.

Building Birdboxes

For our Canals and Rivers project, we visited the RSPB Reserve at Fairburn Ings to learn about the bats, birds, insects and animals that live in and around the waterways. This included making our own birdboxes - to take home !

Growing Potatoes

With a bit of help from Barwick-in-Bloom we have each filled a bucket with soil and a seed potato. Then watched it grow into a huge potato plant. Then we emptied our buckets together to see who had grown the most, or the biggest potato.
